SFL Tournament (last weekend of each season)
The SFL schedules a tournament at the end of each season for all registered teams. The team standings are used to match teams of similar standing in the tournament games. This methodology allows every team to have competitive tournament games regardless of what their team records might have been during the season. All teams are automatically entered in the tournament at no additional cost. Coaches must notify the Loudoun Soccer SFL Mananger at least three weeks before the tournament if their teams do not intend to participate in the tournament. Selected coaches are expected to perform site coordinator functions as defined in SFL guidelines.
SFL Policy Beginning Fall 2003
The SFL tournament will only be held at the end of each season if at least 80% of the planned regular season games have been played by the time that tournament divisions need to be determined. Unless a majority of the games have been played by the time tournament scheduling begins, it is very difficult to properly group teams in the tournament based on their season records. If bad weather or other circumstances have prevented a large number of regular season games from being played as scheduled, then the tournament will not be held and that weekend will be used for make-up games.
Teams will only be eligible to participate in the tournament if they have played at least 40% of their scheduled games by the time the tournament scheduling begins (3 out of the first 6 games in the fall, and 2 out of the first 5 games in the spring). Teams will only be eligible for the top or bottom tournament division groups if they have played at least 70% of their games by the time the tournament scheduling begins (5 out of the first 6 games in the fall, and 4 out of the first 5 games in the spring).
Because of the impact on tournament participation, it is very important that coaches make every effort to reschedule games as soon as possible and to promptly report scores after games are played (games are not marked as played until a score is reported).
