Coach Qualifications

Certification
Loudoun Soccer does not set any minimum requirements for recreational league coaches regarding training and certification, but we strongly recommend that all U13-U19 coaches at least take the E Level Certification course that is offered twice a year. This course is free to Loudoun Soccer coaches and only requires an investment of one full weekend of time. Coaches who complete the E Level Course may want to move on to the D Level course to attain a higher certification and gain better insight for how to coach at the higher age group levels. The E course is offered every March and August, and the D course is usually offered at about the same time. Check the Coaches Corner for the latest schedule of upcoming courses.

Communication
All U13-U19 coaches need to have E-mail accounts that they check on a regular basis. E-Mail messages are sent to all coaches throughout each season to disseminate important information, particularly in regard to game rescheduling. Coaches are also required to send game reports to the SFL by E-Mail after each game to report scores and other relevant information. If a coach does not have an E-Mail account, then a team parent must be designated for E-Mail communications, and that parent is responsible for making sure the coach is aware of the information being provided.

Coaches must also attend one of the preseason meetings where information and materials are disseminated for the upcoming season. All coaches are required to attend these meetings even if they have been coaching for many seasons.

Demeanor
This is a recreational league and the goal is for the players to have fun while developing their soccer skills. Coaches who adopt a win-at-all-costs attitude and limit playing time for weaker players will not be tolerated within Loudoun Soccer. Coaches also need to adopt the right perspective on games and not abuse players or referees for perceived poor performance. The final score of any recreational league game will not have a significant long-term effect on the life of any player or coach. What matters is whether or not the players learn to enjoy the game of soccer and continue to sign up for future seasons. The actions and coaching ability of Loudoun Soccer coaches can greatly influence the level of enjoyment our players have of the game.

Non-Parent Coach Volunteers
Loudoun Soccer also appreciates the services of qualified individuals who volunteer to coach teams when they do not have any children playing soccer. Anyone interested in coaching a U13-U19 team should send an E-Mail message to the Loudoun Soccer SFL Manager.
